My Creative Space-Picture Arranging

I've finally finished off this picture arrangement

We'd been putting off rehanging stuff until the earthquake damaged had been fixed, but its looking like that will be years away. It took ages to do, yet it looks so easy when you see these kind of arrangements in magazines. Clearly there is an art to it. And I'm at the finger painting level. We also have to use a hammer drill to get nails in the poured concrete wall. I think it looks a bit top heavy, but it is good to have white space behind the pottery and stuff. i might also move the pottery/fabric hanging creatures and put a little something more colourful there instead. What do you think? Do you know any good places on the interweb that guides you as to how to these kind of mass picture hangings well? PLEASE let me know if you do, we still have a slew of pictures we picked up in out gallery lounging/disposable income days which have to be hung since we need the front bedroom for a hopefully not in the too distant future 2nd kid.

That crack matches one in the kitchen behind the wall. According to the assessors its not structural?!

I've also had a brief clean-up play with the cool glass box thingy i op-shopped. Not that fussed about this arrangement, but defo going to do something with the red, white, blue and gold...

  1. This is a GREAT creative space! Eek, I had no idea this sort of fancy picture hanging was hard! I plan to do something very similar in our bedroom over the next few weeks Just need to gather the frames. Any tips?

    1. Hi sophie, You'll be fine if your getting frames especially for the job, it just needs a theme like all the frames being similar, we had a whole lot of random pre-framed stuff that we just couldn't get to work together until will picked out all the ones with black frames/black-blue colouring. we mapped out the wall size with masking tape on the carpet and tried different things out like that, until we figure out this ascending /descending steps pattern. it was fun! please show us what you did when you've done it, i'd love to see x

  2. I really like the arrangement. I have to get hubby to put pictures up in our house as I never seem to be able to hang anything straight!

  4. I've been having difficulty commenting on some of your posts lately - blogger doesn't always play fair!
I also want to try something similar with pictures, but can imagine getting stressed about layout, straight-ness etc. I've seen countless articles about hanging groups of mirrors, pictures and plates, but you probably won't find one with the advice you need when you really need it!
I don't like symmetry and order, but Rob demands it or he starts twitching, so we will have loads of fun with this.
Your wall looks very striking, leave it as it is, I say. No colour.

  5. We Christchurch home makers are having to learn heaps of patience waiting for repairs. Good on you for going ahead with your picture arrangement. It looks fabulous and the cracks just add a quirky dimension!

  7. love the arrangement and artworks! I tend to use the same frames to give a more uniformed look to an arrangement and yes I do a test run on the floor too :-)
I love the little figurines on the wall, the cute little bunnies, could you tell me more about them?

  8. I love your arrangement - we bought a set of cheapish white frames from farmers a long time ago and used those along with ones we had to try to form some cohesion. I'll send you a pic sometime of our photo wall. I couldn't really find anything useful online so just set about planning with a lot of calculating and measuring!
